about

Pete Rose was denied reinstatement to MLB again today.I wrote this a few months ago and this seemed to be the only appropriate day to release it to the world.

lyrics

LYRICS

Pete Rose should have quit that gambling
He'd been better straight cheating
Or beating his woman
Or eating up all the amphetamines
But ought we forgive him for the era he lived in?

A man among obsessives
His heroes weren't different
And it's gotten worse since then
Poor Pete deserves worse company
Hell, the Hall's full of men
Who thought less of men with brown skin

And thats some cheap joke to call him a hustler
Those ain't just words you're throwing around
This ain't the time for your layman's terms
It's so cliche to say "he's out"

Well, a man's more than his shortcomings
But now he's signing memorabilia
While he'd rather be managing
Pete's being used for spectacle
Put him in a red jacket and parade him for ratings

He ought to make an ad for DraftKings
'Cause the league's making millions
Advertising his addiction
All you need is a good disclaimer
Can't wager on a player
Unless you call it daily fantasy

And the on-air personalities don't have much to say
Unwise to talk when you're on the payroll
But they ain't blind to the hypocrisy
What if his vice was their betting sites?
